WSTW loves pets! That’s why we’ve partnered with Humane Animal Partners (formerly Delaware Humane Association and Delaware SPCA) to bring you our Pets of the Week. Each week, we’ll show you a cat and a dog from Humane Animal Partners who need good homes. 

Pets of the week

If you love shepherd personalities, then this girl is for you! Marley is a 4-year-old Shepherd mix with the biggest brain and an even bigger heart! Marley came to HAP from a local rescue group in New Jersey when they no longer had space for her. Whether you have toys or treats, Marley is eager to please. She already knows many commands, such as 'sit', 'paw', 'down', 'stay', 'other paw', and 'come'. She also appears to be house-trained and walks very well on a leash. Occasionally, she may bark at the other dogs walking through the kennel areas but is easily redirected with a toy. Marley loves stuffed toys, prancing around with them any chance she gets. She also enjoys playing fetch in our fenced fields to get some fun exercise. After play, she is quick to nestle into your arms for cuddle time!

Zya appears to know a few basic commands such as sit and paw. Although she can be a shy girl, she loves to give hugs and kisses and try to make some new doggy friends. Zya is still learning how to socialize, so she would benefit best from someone willing to be patient and understanding while she adapts to her surroundings. If you are looking for a sweet, smart, and beautiful girl to take home and love forever, Zya could be the one for you!

Maggie is a 4-year-old Chihuahua seeking a calm home with adults. She came to HAP from a high-intake shelter in Georgia when they no longer had space for her. In true Chihuahua fashion, Maggie can be very fearful of new people and will let you know her thoughts. Despite her initial worries, she warms up with some patience and treats. Maggie has been loving life in a foster home, where she has proved to be super sweet with other dogs and affectionate with her foster family. She has done well with house training and basic commands too!

Elmira will steal your heart away with one meow! She is a 6-year-old mature beauty with a kitten heart. Elmira came to HAP when she was found as a stray, but it was clear this girl had lived in a home and socialized with people. She adores being pet, usually following you around waiting to be loved. Elmira is also a chatty girl and enjoys talking with humans, she even has the sweetest meow! In addition to her loving personality, Elmira is quite the laid-back lady, often enjoying a nice afternoon nap or some snacks. Elmira is fairly tolerant of being handled, held, and snuggled. She will use her big girl voice paired with a love tap to let you know if you've crossed her boundaries too far, though this is rare. She has so much life left in her, begging to find her forever home.

Elmira will steal your heart away with one meow! She is a 6-year-old mature beauty with a kitten heart. Elmira came to HAP when she was found as a stray, but it was clear this girl had lived in a home and socialized with people. She adores being pet, usually following you around waiting to be loved. Elmira is also a chatty girl and enjoys talking with humans, she even has the sweetest meow! Upon his arrival, he was very underweight and begging to be loved. He has regained some healthy weight and will surely melt into you for some treats. Leon is truly a lover boy, enjoying head pets and pawing at you for more when you stop. He has come out of his shell over time, showing us that he also enjoys playtime and is comfortable tolerating other laid-back cats!
Meet one of our Spooky Gang babies, Specter! She was brought into the shelter with her littermates when they were itty bitty kittens. Understandably, they were all confused to be in the shelter environment. While they are still a bit nervous, every day they learn that people are friends who come with delicious treats! Once she knows you are safe, she is a loving girl. Specter gets along well with other kitties, though she does startle from fast movements so we would recommend a home without dogs or young children!

Meet one of our Spooky Gang babies, Specter! She was brought into the shelter with her littermates when they were itty bitty kittens. Understandably, they were all confused to be in the shelter environment. While they are still a bit nervous, every day they learn that people are friends who come with delicious treats! Once she knows you are safe, she is a loving girl. Specter gets along well with other kitties, though she does startle from fast movements so we would recommend a home without dogs or young children!

ADOPTION PROCESS

Our adoption process is designed to help you and your family find the perfect match in a pet. When the right match is made, we strive to conduct our adoptions thoughtfully, transparently, and with the utmost respect. HAP asks those interested in adopting to please submit an adoption questionnaire at //www.humaneanimalpartners.org/adopt/adoption-process/  prior to visiting! All animals from HAP are spayed/neutered, given age-appropriate vaccines, microchipped, and examined by a vet prior to adoption.
